when the sun goes down
The year was over. Summer was here. Even though I was 16 I still didnt have my license. But I got my first job. I was a lifeguard. I can testify that lifeguarding is the best job any teenager could ask for. I met so many great people and made so many great friends. Not to mention all the boys that check you out while you're on your stand! All the 14 year old boys.... and 40 year old men. Ugh. I guess thats what I got for working at a kiddie pool (North Shore). But I still had fun. We always had work parties and got into all sorts of mischief with our boss. I remember at one work party we rented a cotton candy maker! Best party ever. And we watched a movie on the water. We always had so much food. It was amazing. This was also the summer I started dating Brad (I changed his name to keep things a mystery). He was charming. He drove a big, sexy, red jeep. And had pretty eyes. He always took me on the funnest dates, 4 wheeling in Morgan, dinner all the time, Jazz games, too see fireworks, and the Toby Keith concert. We dated for about 5 months (not exclusively). And for some reason... I just wasn't crazy about him. He was nice and funny. But I didn't want it to go anywhere. I think after a period of time I get sick of boys. Why am I like this? It's so odd. Anyway, in August I totaled my sisters car.... oops. Sorry. I guess I didn't see the stopped car in front of me. I still didn't have my license and a couple weeks later I turned 17. My friends and I had an awesome summer. And before we knew it, school was starting again. It's such an exciting time at the beginning of the year. Mostly for one reason, shopping. School was going just fine. But after a couple months we got so sick of school. And by this time most of us had cars (not me) so of course, we took advantage of that sweet opportunity. We sluffed school. A lot. I think its safe to say we sluffed everyday. Not the whole day, just one class. We would go to Boones and get those amazing oreo shakes. Or we would go to the park. I never was a fan of the park but Katie, Maddie, and Kels loved it. So I went along. Which was a bad idea. Ya see, the park is right between my house and my sisters house. So of course I get caught.... by my mom. I saw her coming down the road so I tried hiding in the car but she saw me. She flung open the door and said "get your butt in the car! I'm taking you to school!". I was trying not to laugh. My mom was trying ever harder. Oh, and the whole time this is going on there was a pack of construction workers watching it all. A little embarrassing. But we laughed about it. Around February I donated blood at my school for the first time. Not the best experience. But it was good. One day after school my mom gave me a letter, from the sender it said Elder Morgan. Huh? Elder Morgan? I dont know anyone with that name! So I opened it up and he sent a picture of himself. I had no idea who that person was at all. Or how he knew me. After staring at the picture for a couple mintues it hit me..... Spenser from Tennessee!! My brother Casey met a kid in his area while serving in Tennessee and gave him my number. This was in ninth grade. We wrote letters and talked on the phone a couple times. We only wrote for maybe 3 months. But the letters stopped coming. And I hadn't heard from him until now. How did he get my address? He was serving with one of Coltons best friends who was pretty much my brother. Small world huh? So we started writing again for a couple months but stopped after a while. I'm not even sure what mission he is in anymore. School went by again. I still hung out with my old crush and those guys once and a while. Their hang out place was Pilot, the gas station on 12th. Not too far from my house so joined them on occasion. Junior year was fun. Lots of sluffing. But all worth it.
